Recently, a bold and attention-grabbing advertisement featuring Ranveer Singh promoting Bold Care, a male sexual wellness brand, took the internet by storm. Initially mistaken for a spoof on daily soaps or a comical pre-Valentine’s Day video, it soon became clear that Ranveer was not only the brand’s face but also its co-founder. The intentionally shocking ad achieved its goal of garnering instant recognition for Ranveer’s brand.

However, what truly caught everyone’s attention was the juxtaposition of a top-tier movie star in a video resembling a daily soap. While Bold Care promises to reignite passions in Indian bedrooms, the ad itself serves as a wake-up call for the television industry, often criticized for its cringe-worthy content. As I watched the commercial, memories of scenes from Hindi TV shows flooded my mind, particularly those unintentionally comical moments.

One iconic example is Gopi Bahu from the infamous soap “Saath Nibhana Saathiya.” Amidst the tacky melodrama, including the viral ‘rasode mein kaun thha’ scene, there was an episode where Gopi washed her verbally and psychologically abusive husband Ahem’s laptop. As viewers watched in disbelief, Gopi scrubbed the laptop with soap and water before hanging it to dry on the washing line alongside other clothes.
